Xiaomi aspires to create a car on par with Porsche and Tesla

Xiaomi has revealed its first electric car, shortly after Huawei launched its own. The two tech giants, known for smartphones and consumer electronics, are expanding into autos. Xiaomi pledged $10 billion over a decade to smart EVs in 2021.

At the launch, CEO Lei Jun aimed for Xiaomi to be a top five automaker in 15-20 years. He envisioned Xiaomi cars dominating global roads.

Lei emphasized Xiaomi's ambition to produce cars comparable to Porsche and Tesla. He acknowledged the challenges, but highlighted Xiaomi's progress, comparing its offering to Tesla's Model S and Porsche's Taycan Turbo.

Automotive commentator Mark Rainford praised Xiaomi's car as compelling, anticipating strong sales in China. He noted its tech features and connectivity with Xiaomi smartphones.

Xiaomi didn't disclose the car's price, hinting it would be premium. The launch coincided with Huawei's Aito M9 SUV debut, adding to China's competitive auto market.

Huawei's SUV boasts spacious interiors, premium features, and a cinema-like projection screen. The vehicles enter a crowded market, marked by fierce competition and price wars.

Huawei's electric sedan, launched last month, aims to rival Tesla.
