Authorities have identified 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks as the suspect in the attempted assassination of former President Trump. The shooting took place less than 12 hours ago at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump was escorted off the stage with visible injuries, including blood on his ear and face. This marks the first public shooting of a prominent U.S. politician since Ronald Reagan was shot by John Hinckley Jr. in 1981.

According to the BBC, Trump was taken to a local hospital, subsequently released, and has returned to his home in New Jersey.
